
Danny Webber started flying sailplanes in 1969 in Europe while in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He has recently surpassed over 16000 launches (5250 winch) and has 5700 hours of flying time. He has achieved his Diamond Goal Badge, has had a distance flight of 333 miles, and has experience in 51 types of sailplanes. He is a Certified Flight Instructor in England, Germany, Canada, and the U.S.A (completed courses in England and Canada). Danny is a FAA Designated Examiner for gliders and has been on staff at Turf since 1990. He was the chief flying instructor for a club in Germany and two in Canada. He has owned 3 sailplanes: a Caudron C800, a Shcleicher K-7, and a Nimbus 2B. He loves to teach new pilots to soar, to fly tasks, and do aerobatics. Danny’s other passions in life include military history, politics, women, and especially hockey.
Jeremy
Stacy began his aviation career in
2001 with an aerobatic ride and has
never looked back since. Starting as a
line boy running wings and retrieving
gliders earning funds towards his flying
ambitions he is now a Commercial Glider
Pilot with Instructor Privileges. Jeremy
has recently completed his associates
degree in Aircraft Maintenance
Technology at Chandler-Gilbert Community
College located on the Williams Campus,
also earning his Airframe and Power
plant ratings. He now maintains the
various aircraft at Turf Soaring School.
He also competes in the Tequila Cup, an
annual aerobatic contest held in Marana,
AZ. In 2002 taking a close second place
in Sportsman Glider category and then in
2003 taking first place, in 2005 he took
first place in Unlimited Glider
category. His current project is to earn
his Commercial Power Rating.
Jerry Kapp is a sailplane enthusiast, owner of K2G Computer Consulting, and the CIO (Computer Information Officer) for Turf Soaring School. Jerry developed the software and maintains the computers that keep Turf running smoothly. He has been a glider pilot since 2000 and has been in the computer business since 1995. Jenanne Brown is Turf’s accountant, treasurer, and secretary. She has been involved in soaring for over 30 years: having taken lessons, crewed for her husband Rick, and supported her sons, Jim and Dean, through their aviation endeavors. They started working on the line at ages 9 & 13 respectively, became licensed pilots, and are now working as an Applications Engineer for Aerospace Electronics Systems at Honeywell in Arizona and Air Traffic Controller at the Indy Center in Indianapolis.
David Ammon has been
involved in aviation, full or
part-time, since 1961. As a U.S.
Army trained aircraft engine
overhaul specialist in1962; he
joined the Flying Club at Fort
Benning Georgia in September
1963, soloed in a Piper Super
Cub, and received his Private
Pilot License in May 1964 in a
Cessna 150. His commercial check
ride was in a Piper Cherokee 140
in May 1967.
He received his B.S. in
Agriculture in May 1968, from
the University of Arizona;
completed his Flight Instructor
License in November 1969,
followed by an instrument rating
in February 1972. During 1974,
he attended Cal-Ag-Aero,
completing aerial applicator
training and was licensed in AZ
& CA and flew for six years as
an Agricultural Pilot (Crop
Duster). In August 1974, he
received his Glider Commercial
and Flight Instructor Licenses.
For ten years he ran his own
part-time “Aerial Images”
company, flying low level,
natural resource, remote sensing
flights for federal and state
agricultural departments, He
then received his M.S. in
Agriculture in May 1987. In
April 1998 he completed his
Instrument Instructor License.
He was a primary & instrument
Instructor Pilot for Lufthansa,
German Airline, and retired
after nine years from Airline
Training Center Arizona,
Goodyear, AZ. He has accumulated
over 11,000 hours of which over
7,000 hours have been as a
Flight Instructor.
Since February 2005, David has
been a fulltime staff pilot for
Turf Soaring School, as a Glider
Instructor and Tow Pilot. He has
four children, a step son, and
five grandchildren. He is
married to Christina and they
are active in the West Valley
Family Church of the Nazarene.
Bebop
